Infections

Vaginal discharge can be very embarrassing and uncomfortable. You need
to take the time to learn the symptoms of this common problem.
To Check
-
Understand that the vagina is a self-cleaning organ. Don't
mistake natural for unnatural discharge.
-
Make sure to keep your vaginal area clean by washing gently with
a non-irritating soap and warm water. Try not to wash too
frequently or too abrasively as this can lead to problems.
-
Wipe from front to back when going to the bathroom,
never back to front. Wiping from back to front can bring bacteria
from the anus into the vagina and urethra and can cause infection.
-
A large % of women experience some amount of vaginal discharge
during their lifetimes. Discharge is natural. Some women produce
more discharge than others. Many women have dryness problems,
particularly during menopause.
Tips
-
If your discharge has started abnormally or smells fishy, you
may have an infection. The most common infections are yeast
infections and are easily treated. Most women will experience a
yeast infection at some point in their lives; many will experience

-
If you suspect you have an infection, see a doctor.
-
Try not to wear clothing that is too tight. It may cause more
moisture and friction.
-
Stay hydrated. The vagina can become dehydrated right along with
the rest of the body and this can create a different smell and
different levels of discharge.
-
Try to wear underwear with a cotton lining. Synthetic fabrics
can irritate the natural moisture levels in the vagina.
-
Finally, try to get used to the idea that some women have more
discharge than others. There is nothing wrong with discharge. If
it is terribly irritating, you can wear a pantyliner but it is not
necessary.
-
Wash all your underwear together with hot water every time. This
will kill any bacteria that is currently growing on them.
Important
-
If you notice a fishy smell, itching, burning or irritation
along with the discharge, see a doctor. There could be a problem
that is easily treated and there is no need to be uncomfortable.
-
Excessive discharge may mean a STD. Be sure to get
both a pap smear and blood drawn.
-
If you wear a g-string consider switching to
normal underwear.
Rubbing could be the cause as bacteria from your anus can spreads to your vagina and can cause
bacteria infections.
